YAZD Police have seized 15.6 tons of narcotics and arrested 3,574 traffickers in this central Iranian province since March 20, the start of the current Iranian calendar year, the provincial police said Sunday. The haul is six tons more than that over the same period last year.

Some 800 kilograms of the confiscated drugs which were stashed in a trailer truck were seized on Saturday.

As part of intensified efforts to apprehend drug traffickers, a security belt has been in place between Yazd Province and its neighbors -- Fars, Isfahan and Kerman.
